SEPTEMBER 1, 2020 ERIE TOWNSHIP

Regular Meeting Minutes

Chairperson Chuck Chadbourne called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with all board members present.  Also in attendance were Rodger Palmer, Bert Nelson, John Okeson, and Becky and Dale Renner.

The agenda was reviewed by the board and motion was made by Gerry Schram and seconded by Joann Splonskowski to approve the proposed agenda with the additions as noted on the final agenda.  Motion carried.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Clerk Karen Eifealdt read the minutes of the August 4, 2020 regular meeting.  A motion was made by Chuck and seconded by Joann to approve the minutes as read.  Motion carried.

After reviewing the treasurer’s report as prepared by the treasurer, Mary Schermerhorn, a motion was made by Chuck and seconded by Joann to approve the report as prepared with the checking account having a balance of $7,111.84; the money market account having a balance of $208,458.80; the CD having a balance of $127,936.96 with total funds as of August 31, 2020 being $343,507.40.  Motion carried.

Road Report:

3 loads of gravel were hauled to Perch Lake Rd. 

Brush mowing isn’t quite caught up but will continue if there are enough funds to continue. A motion was made by Joann and seconded by Gerry to move forward and do the additional, transferring money from the general fund if needed.  After some discussion the motion was amended to include cutting trees that were in danger of falling on township roads.  Motion carried

Hubble Pond:  A call was received from Mike from the DNR who requested a meeting and wondering when it would be possible for all supervisors to meet, maybe on a Monday afternoon.  Chuck will try to set something up.

Rodger Palmer gave a short presentation regarding starting a Lions Club which would be meeting at Curly’s.  The name would be Erie Township – Four Corners Lions Club named for the central location and not for the 4 Corners business.  

John Okeson was in attendance and answered questions about county issues.

OLD BUSINESS

Karen gave a brief report on the Primary.  Overall it went fairly well with three complaints made to the clerk’s office.   Karen requested that the Board consider a $5/hr.  hazard pay to election judges who 

judged during the Primary election and for judges who will be judging for the General election. After discussion, a motion was made by Joann and seconded by Gerry to increase the judges pay from $15 to $22 an hour to across the board.  Motion carried with a vote of 2 for and 1 against. 

Mark has been spraying for weeds.  He will be spraying for Spotted Knapweed sometime during September.

NEW BUSINESS

Some options were discussed for the General Election in November.  Everyone will send any options to Karen and then will be discussed at the next meeting.

Chuck will get an update on the electrician.  

Mary is having issues with her computer.  A motion was made by Chuck and seconded by Gerry to approve her taking it in to get checked out and fixed if need be.

PAYMENT OF BILLS

A motion was made by Joann and seconded by Gerry to approve payment of the following bills in the amount of $11,565.47 and to transfer $14,000 from the money market account to the checking account. Motion carried.

There being no further business, a motion was made by Joann to adjourn the meeting and the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
